Cellulosic paper-based membrane for oil-water separation enabled by papermaking and in-situ gelation

Cellulosic paper-based membranes reveal incalculable application values for oil–water separation owing to their renewability and biodegradability. In this work, a cellulosic membrane was prepared via papermaking in-situ gelation. The porosity of the can be tailored by pulp refining in further adjust flux membranes. as-prepared separate emulsion efficiently with efficiency > 98.5%. also showed good underwater oil repellency due hydration layer. Besides, wet strength enhanced micro-dissolved gelation suit process. is expected low-cost, highly-efficient material oily wastewater purification. This work demonstrates new idea development papermaking, which provides feasible strategy large scale production fully biodegradable
